FIFTY CRATES OF CRAFTS
Your retail gateway to the vibrant world of local, handmade arts and crafts.
We are excited to be exploring new retail locations in Barnstaple and Bude, designed to complement our flagship store in Appledore. Together, these spaces will celebrate and showcase the incredible work of local creatives and makers from across Devon and North Cornwall, bringing thoughtfully curated, handmade pieces to even more communities.
Each location will reflect the same care, creativity, and passion found in our Appledore store, offering visitors the chance to discover the stories behind every handmade item — from expressive artwork and ceramics to natural skincare, textiles, and more. Rooted in our coastal landscape and creative spirit, our growing retail presence aims to support independent makers while creating warm, welcoming spaces filled with originality and craftsmanship.
Join us on our unique journey as we continue to champion exceptional local artistry and grow our creative community across the South West.

Our Curation Process
At North Devon Handmade Collective, every application is carefully curated to ensure a high-quality, distinctive and authentic collection. Our curation process assesses whether each piece is genuinely handmade and original, and considers whether it duplicates an existing design or creative discipline already represented in the shop. We also evaluate the likely appeal of the work to our customers, ensuring a balanced and engaging range of arts and crafts. Preference is given to artisans who live and create within 20 miles of the shop and who are able to contribute time working in the shop, helping us maintain a vibrant, locally rooted creative community.

Applications to join our Appledore and Bude shops are now open. Applications for our Barnstaple shop open in the spring; however, you are welcome to apply now, with the understanding that Barnstaple applications will not be assessed until April. We encourage artisans to apply early so their work can be considered as soon as the assessment period begins.
