On 1st July 2026, North Devon Handmade Collective (NDHC) was appointed by Torridge District Council as the licence holder for Great Torrington Pannier Market for an initial three-year term.

We view this appointment not simply as a management role, but as one of stewardship. Great Torrington Pannier Market has been at the heart of the town since 1842 and is one of North Devon's most important heritage assets. Our responsibility is to protect and celebrate that heritage while supporting traders, welcoming visitors and helping the market continue to thrive for future generations.

Looking for an affordable and friendly place to sell your products? Great Torrington Pannier Market is always keen to welcome new traders.

Our regular General Market Days take place every Friday and Saturday from 9:00am to 3:00pm, with trader set-up available from 7:30am.

For just £7.50 per day, you'll receive a 6ft x 3ft market table within our historic covered market, allowing you to trade whatever the weather.

Celebrating Authentic Craftsmanship, Creativity and Local Production

Handmade in North Devon is a carefully curated market dedicated to showcasing the very best products genuinely made by hand within North Devon. This event exists to celebrate the skill, creativity and dedication of local makers, artists, craftspeople, food producers and artisans who transform raw materials into finished products through their own knowledge, talent and craftsmanship. We are committed to promoting authentic handmade work and supporting a sustainable local economy built upon quality, originality and provenance.

What Does "Handmade in North Devon" Mean?

To be eligible for this event, the entire design, making and finishing process must take place within North Devon.

All products exhibited and sold must be personally created by the maker through traditional, contemporary or innovative craft techniques.

Examples include: throwing and glazing a ceramic bowl; hand-carving a wooden spoon; knitting a scarf; weaving a basket; creating original paintings or illustrations; producing fused glass artwork; crafting jewellery by hand; making artisan soaps or candles; baking cakes; bread and confectionery; brewing, fermenting or distilling beverages; or producing preserves, sauces and speciality food products.

The emphasis is on the transformation of raw or unfinished materials into a completed product through the skill and labour of the maker.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for Handmade in North Devon, all products must meet the following requirements:

Made in North Devon
The design, creation, manufacture and finishing of the product must take place within North Devon.
Genuine Handmade Production
Products must be created from raw or unfinished materials and transformed into a finished product by the maker using traditional, contemporary or specialist production techniques.
Assembly-only products, imported components assembled into finished goods, and mass-produced items will not normally be accepted.
UK-Sourced Primary Materials
The primary materials used in the creation of products must be sourced within the United Kingdom wherever reasonably possible. We believe supporting British suppliers strengthens local supply chains and contributes to a more sustainable creative economy.
Any products requiring certification, testing or regulatory compliance must meet all relevant legal requirements.
Where applicable, products must carry appropriate UKCA accreditation and traders must be able to provide evidence of compliance upon request.

We actively encourage applications from makers whose work demonstrates a commitment to sustainability and circular economy principles.

Our Curation Process

Every application is reviewed to ensure products meet the event's standards for authenticity, quality and local provenance. We aim to create a diverse marketplace featuring a broad range of disciplines and product categories.

Please note all applications are reviewed individually, duplicate products may be limited, places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis once approved and priority may be given to exceptional craftsmanship, originality and sustainable practices.
